Two Spots to Pick Up Free Trees on Arbor Day on Big Island

The Amy Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden, located in Captain Cook, is celebrating Arbor Day on November 1, from 8:30 a.m. until noon.

Five hundred native Hawaiian trees and shrubs will be given away, while supplies last. Plants to be given away include: kou, milo, kukui, lama, alahe‘e, koki‘o ke‘o ke‘o, ma‘o hau hele, hala, halapepe, ili‘ahi, koa, and ‘ōhi‘a ‘ai.

Kua ‘O Ka La Public Charter School, Ho‘oulu Lahui, Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry Program, and Hawaii Electric Light Company are joining together to give away trees at the 7th annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway.

The Recent Attacks at UH Manoa… is UH Safe?

In just the last few weeks there have been a number of attacks.

Today there was another one:

A University of Hawai’i at Manoa student was robbed of his cash by two men at Gateway House early this morning, university officials said…

KHON reports 7 robberies in 2 months:

The fall session at the University of Hawaii-Manoa is barely two months old and there have already been seven robberies on or near campus.

One of the attacks was even on a security guard:

Police were looking for a man in his 30s who allegedly robbed a security guard at knifepoint yesterday near the University of Hawai’i-Manoa campus.

A 13 Year old Girl was assaulted on Campus just two weeks ago:

A 13-year-old girl reported the Oct. 8 attack to police on Friday. Takayama said the girl met the attacker at a party downtown and the man took the girl to the Stan Sheriff Center and allegedly assaulted her in a room.

UH apparently is NOT a safe campus.  Although while I attended about a decade ago, I felt fairly safe there.
