Big Island Police Identify Eden Roc Murder Victim

Hawaiʻi Island police have confirmed the identity of the victim of a fatal stabbing Tuesday afternoon (November 5) in the Eden Roc subdivision.

Rory Thompson Wick

He is identified as 32-year-old Rory Thompson Wick of Mountain View. He was pronounced dead at 11:11 p.m. Tuesday at Hilo Medical Center.

The suspect, 34-year-old David True Seal of Mountain View, is being held at the Hilo police cellblock on suspicion of second-degree murder while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations continue the investigation.

Big Island Police Arrest Man in Connection With Stabbing in Puna

Hawaiʻi Island police have arrested a man in connection with a stabbing in Puna on Tuesday afternoon (November 5).

At 3:20 p.m., officers responded to a report of a stabbing victim on Pilo Street in the Eden Roc subdivision. They arrived to find an unresponsive 32-year-old man with multiple stab wounds.

Police took a 34-year-old man into custody but were not immediately able to verify his identity. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and initially taken to the Hilo police cellblock. He was then transferred to Hilo Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of his family.

Big Island Police Charge Puna Man in Connection with Barricading Incident Last Week

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged the Puna man arrested last Tuesday (March 26) in connection with an incident involving a barricaded subject in the Eden Roc subdivision.

Jeffrey K. Cabantan, 55, of Eden Roc was charged Thursday with first-degree terroristic threatening and four firearm offenses. His bail was set at $104,000. He remained at the Hilo police cellblock pending his initial court hearing scheduled for Monday (April 1).

Man Surrenders After Barricading Himself in Eden Roc Subdivision

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating an incident involving a barricaded subject in the Eden Roc subdivision in the Puna District.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday (March 26), Puna officers responded to a call of an armed man in a home on Ahi Avenue. The suspect allegedly threatened the occupants of the house with a firearm. Responding officers determined that he was unwilling to voluntarily surrender.

The department’s Special Response Team tactical unit was activated and responded to the location. Police determined that a 35-year-old relative had managed to exit the house. She informed police that a 55-year-old man was preventing his wife from leaving the structure and was armed with multiple weapons.

Negotiations ensued. As a result, the suspect surrendered to police without incident, and the 55-year-old woman was found unharmed.

At 3:45 p.m., Special Response Team officers arrested 55-year old Jeffrey K. Canabantan, of Eden Roc. He is being held in the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section and Juvenile Aid Section conduct further investigation in this incident, which is classified as a first-degree unlawful imprisonment and first-degree terroristic threatening.

Big Island Police Reclassify Investigation of Eden Roc Body to Murder Investigation – Identify Victim

Big Island police have reclassified the investigation of body a found Saturday in the Eden Roc subdivision from a coroner’s inquest to a murder.

An autopsy conducted Tuesday morning (January 31) determined that the victim died from a combination of ligature strangulation and a brain injury from a gunshot wound. The victim has been identified as 52-year-old Robert John Leong of Eden Roc.

Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the investigation.

Big Island Police Investigating Body Found in Eden Roc

Big Island police are investigating a body found in Puna as a coroner’s inquest.

Shortly after 6:52 am, Saturday (January 28), police received a report of a body found near a residence in the Eden Roc Subdivision. The unidentified man appeared to be in his 50s.

Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section are conducting further investigation into the death and have not ruled out foul play.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning to determine the exact cause of death and to assist in identification.
