Hayden Meets Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and is Recognized at the State Capital

Today at the Hawaii State Capital building auditorium, kids from around the State were recognized for their winning artwork for the art that has hung in the State Capital for “Youth Art Month” sponsored by the Hawaii Art Education Association.

Five kids from Kamehameha Schools Hawaii Campus were selected to go over there today based on judges decision on who’s art was the best in each class and the judges selected my son!

Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is back from Washington D.C. and she was the person that presented the awards.

I knew that my son was getting awarded along with all the other kids that were there… but I was even more surprised that his artwork was considered “TOP TEN” in the STATE!

Hayden got a special certificate for being “Top Ten” according to the judges.

Congratulations to all the kids that were recognized today.  Of course I’m especially proud of my son!

Saturday – 2nd Annual Kipimana Cup

W.H. Shipman, Ltd., (WHS) in concert with Keaau and Kamehameha-Hawaii High Schools will kick off the 2nd annual Kipimana Cup Saturday, August 25, to support Keaau area high school athletics.

The cup will be presented to the winner of a goodwill football game between Kamehameha and Keaau High Schools at Kamehameha’s home field. The JV game starts at 1 p.m. with the varsity game to follow.

“Last year’s games were a huge success,” said Bill Walter, president of WHS.  “I enjoy seeing the team camaraderie and community members coming together to celebrate the area with a friendly game of football.  W.H. Shipman is proud to be a longstanding part of Keaau–a truly great place to live and work.”

The Kamehameha Schools Hawaii campus opened on former WHS land in 2001 and serves approximately 1,120 keiki, grades K-12, and their familes from Waimea to Waiohinu.  Keaau High School serves approximately 950 keiki in grades 9-12 and their families.  It opened in 1998 on land that was also once owned by the WHS Estate.

“Kipimana” is how Hawaiians referred to WHS more than 100 years ago, and the name is used today as a street name in the Keaau area.

WHS will award $500 to the booster club of each school.  Last year, Kamehameha Schools won bragging rights and the inaugural Kipimana Cup over Keaau with a final score of 36-21.

WHS, part of the East Hawaii business community for 130 years, has 17,000 acres in the Puna District and is engaged in agriculture and commercial/ industrial development and leasing.  As a land steward, the company holds a long range-view to sustainability and planned development for balanced community use.

Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate – Hawaii Campus 2011 Summer School Open House – Hayden Shines!

Today was Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate Hawaii Campus 2011 summer school open house.

My son showed me some of the stuff that he was learning in the classroom before the day actually began.

Once all the kids arrived, it was time to head out to meet the other 2nd grade classes for the morning “oli” or Hawaiian for prayer.

My son told me he had a surprise for me… and it turned out that he was selected to lead the morning “Oli”.

After the morning Oli was done, the parents watched a slide show of pictures from the events that the kids had been doing.

The parents then were treated to four performances in the schools cafeteria.

For those that don’t know… my son was fortunate enough to be one of forty kindergartners to get selected go to this school a couple years ago after almost a year of testing and application procedures.  Normally the summer school programs are set aside for students that aren’t accepted into KSBE on a regular basis so I feel very fortunate that he’s getting summer school provided for him as well!

KSBE Hawaii 2011 Spring Concert

The kids of KSBE Hawaii Elementary School put on their annual spring concert on Friday night to a packed cafeteria.

The theme was Disney related so all of the songs came from Disney movies.

My sons class sang “I’ve Got No Strings to Hold Me Down” from Pinocchio

and “Never Smile at a Crocodile” from Peter Pan.

The highlight of the night came at the end when the 5th graders performed!

 

My Son Earns Citizen of the Month at KSBE Hawaii Campus

I’m so proud of my son for earning the “Citizen of the Month” for the month of January at Kamehameha Schools Hawaii Campus!

The teacher got the date wrong on the luncheon though... will have to get that figured out
