I’ve always thought the Paper is slowly dieing off.  How is this latest piece of breaking news?  I’m assuming it’s just a press release sent off by the company.

I just noticed a breaking news item on the Honolulu Advertiser:

“Superferry Offering discounts on Local Ag Products”

Since when did the Superferry start selling local ag products?  And what is an Ag? ;)

Also I noticed inside the article:

What’s a Reefer Plug?

I just went onto priceline.com and pulled this sample package.  As you can see, it flies into Hilo , not Kona.

PS – It is correct that rainfall is measured at the destination airport.  And that is explained right on the Website.

I first mentioned of the Guaranteed Sun offer on Priceline here.

The General Manager of Priceline responded here.

I have now sent off the following letter for clarification on this matter as someone mentioned that the deal was for Kona and not Hilo.

Aloha Brian,

Thank you for the kind words about my blog.

It has been brought to my attention that the priceline deals that you are offering with this guarantee of sunshine in Hilo have a catch to it:

“Thanks for posting the deal, Damon. There is, of course, a rub. All flights involved in the Hilorain fall is measured at the airport connected to the package… the Kona airport! Hmmmph. The prices are fairly “reasonable” for these crazy times, so it is worth a look and –hey– it does rain in Kona…”

If this is true… then your offer about the Hilo trips may be a bit of false advertising.

Hilo and Kona are two seperate areas of the Big Island seperated by nearly 100 miles.

The climates are completely different.  Hilo…it rains all the time, Kona… its sunny all the time.

Can you please tell me where you calculate the Rainfall from?  Is it Hilo as advertised on your site…. or is it actually Kona?

The other day I wrote about the Priceline offer of a refund on your trip because of rain.

I got an email from the Priceline Manager stating the following:

Hello Damon,

Candidate Safarik Response to Highway 130 Question

Short term solution would be to assign a police officer to direct traffic at
the intersections of  Paradise/Hwy 130Orchidland Dr./Hwy 130,  Kaloi/Hwy 130
and Shower/Hwy 130 during peak traffic hours..example, 6am to 8am.
Afternoon traffic I would assign an officer to the “merge” area on the
bypass road near the transfer station.

Mid level solution:  Traffic control signals at the intersections of Ainaloa
Blvd and Hwy 130, Orchidland Drive and Hwy 130 and Shower drive and the Hwy.
Also provide for safe bus stops along the hwy so buses could pull over to
the bus stop shoulder and not block Hwy during loading and unloading of
passengers…

Long term :  Alternate route starting at Shower drive and proceeding into
Hilo….
